Thin-Crust Pizza

Pizza is my favorite meal to make for others, it's my go to dish if I've never cooked for them before. It's their reactions as the meal starts as flour then ends up as a delicious pizza in less than an hour is what does it for me. This recipe is a real bare bones recipe, you can add extras like yeast, salt and olive oil for taste if you like.

Ingredients:
  • Flour 250g  - Sold in packs of 1.5kg for 55p
  • Water 2 - 10 TSB
  • Tomato Puree - 2 TSB - 200g is also 55p
  • Mozzarella Cheese - 50g - Sold in packs of 125g for 50p
  • Optional Extras
    • Ham
    • Peppers
    • Chicken
    • Sausage
    • Egg
    • Onion
    • Mushroom
    • You know how it goes, whatever you want.

To start preheat the oven at 200'c and put the flour in a large mixing bowl.

Start adding the water a tablespoon at a time. You want to make a good stretchy dough but this can take time. I find its best to just keep mixing the flour and the water slowly until you get a good consistency dough.

You can use your hands or a spoon if you like. If you're feeling really lazy through all the ingredients in a blender. It still works.

When you have your dough you're going to have to kneed it for a few minutes, this is working the dough. It helps make it more manageable and into the shape you want.

When the dough is stretchy start tearing off pieces about the size of the palm of your hand. Dust a working surface with flour. Then you'll want to flatten them into pizza bases with a rolling pin.

If you're feeling dangerous or you want to impress someone now is the time to start throwing the pizza in the air.

Make the pizza base no more than half a centimeter thick and start using the bottom of a spoon to spread out the tomato puree. Then grate the cheese on top.

Now its time for all your optional extras that make the pizza yours. If you're using egg I crack it open raw and place it in the centre of the pizza.

Throw the pizza in the oven until the crust goes slightly brown and the cheese is golden. Then serve!

Flapjacks

Flapjacks are a great snack and they're really quick to make. They're made with oats, sugar and whatever else you want to put in them. Therefore it has a quick pick me up and some slower complex carbohydrates to keep you going through the afternoon.

Ingredients:
  • 50g butter
  • 1TSB Golden Syrup
  • 1TSB Granulated Sugar
  • 75g - 100g of Oats
  • Plus Optional goodies
    • Raisins
    • Dark Chocolate*
    • Corn Flakes
    • Mixed nuts
    • Protein Powder?

This recipe is simple and very forgiving if you make a mistake.

Method

Put the oven on 200'c and prep an oven dish with some greaseproof paper/tin foil / butter.

Put a saucepan on the heat, throw in the butter.

Once the butter has melted add in the sugar and the golden syrup and mix it all the together.

When's all melted add in your oats and optional ingredients. Unless its a topping, save that for later!

Mix it all together and make sure that gooey sugar gets well into the oats. It's what binds it all together.

Poor the mixture into the oven dish. I like less flapjacks which are thicker. I also like to compress it slightly with a spoon! That way you get some real monster flapjacks.

Throw the mixture in the oven and leave it for 10 - 15 minutes, remove from the oven when it goes slightly brown.

If you're planning on melting chocolate and having it as a topping its best to prep this whilst the flapjacks are in the oven.

Boil some water in the kettle and put it in a saucepan on the heat.

Place a glass bowl on top of the saucepan so it touches the water slightly. Be careful for steam escaping!

Put the dark chocolate into the bowl, make sure no water touches the chocolate or it'll ruin the chocolate!

Allow the chocolate to melt in the bowl, then when the flapjacks are ready take them out of the oven and pour the chocolate all over the flapjacks. Be careful not to spread it too harshly.

Leave your flapjacks to cool and Tada!

Cost of Ingredients

  • 250g butter £1
  • 680g Golden Syrup £1.20
  • 1kg Granulated Sugar £0.80
  • 500g of Oats £0.70
With the butter being the limiting factor, you can make 5 batches of flapjacks for £3.70, and 10 batches for £4.70, 15 for £5.70 etc before you start running out of other ingredients.

At worst its 74p for one tray of flapjacks, and at best it's 38p**

*Never melt milk chocolate! Always dark chocolate!
